The Need for a New Approach

Entrepreneurship acts as the backbone of society, unifying our global community with the resilience to adapt to unpredictable changes. However, the COVID-19 crisis has exposed deep-seated inequities regarding gender, race, and social class that require a fundamental shift in how we approach business.

Addressing Global Inequality

According to the World Inequality Report 2022:

* Gender Gap: Women earn only 35% of global labor income, a figure that has seen minimal growth since 1990.
* Income Disparity: The top 10% of the global population earns 38 times more than the bottom 50%.

These statistics reveal a legacy of economic imbalance where wealth is not distributed fairly, leaving marginalized groups with fewer opportunities. Humane entrepreneurship aims to center economic prosperity around achieving equity for all.

Sustainability and the Future

Global income inequality is intrinsically linked to climate change. The top 10% of emitters contribute to nearly 50% of carbon emissions, while the bottom 50% generate only 12%. Because human health and planetary health are intertwined, we must reshape business practices to promote:

  1. Sustainability
  2. Equity
  3. Human-centered growth

As entrepreneurs, it is our responsibility to use our adaptability to build a future that is both prosperous and humane.
